BIOGRAPHY

Michael A. Marinaccio, received his Bachelor's Degree from Colgate University in 1973 and his Juris Doctor Degree from St. John's University, School of Law, in 1976. Upon graduation from law school, he was appointed as an Assistant District Attorney in The Bronx County District Attorney's Office by the late Mario Merola, District Attorney of Bronx County. Mr. Marinaccio rose in the ranks of the District Attorney's Office, eventually being appointed Chief of the Narcotics Bureau. As an Assistant District Attorney, Mr. Marinaccio tried numerous serious felony cases and supervised all major narcotics investigations and prosecutions.

In 1985, Mr. Marinaccio left the District Attorney's Office and with his partner, James J. Culleton (now retired), formed the law firm of CULLETON & MARINACCIO, a general practice firm concentrating in civil and criminal litigation. As a private attorney, Mr. Marinaccio has litigated civil and criminal cases in New York State, Federal and Administrative Law Courts. He has also conducted labor arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association. Mr. Marinaccio also handles business, real estate and trust and estate matters. Mr. Marinaccio has represented scores of individuals and businesses in civil matters and individuals charged with serious criminal offense including murder, racketeering, fraud and robbery in both State and Federal Courts. In 1992, Mr. Marinaccio and his firm successfully represented several Italian American faculty and staff in their civil rights action against the City University of New York in the Southern District of New York entitled Scelsa et al v. CUNY et al. Since 1999, Mr. Marinaccio and his firm have represented Riverbay Corporation, the owner and operator of Co-op City in Bronx, New York - the largest cooperative housing development in the United States - in various legal matters. In 1997, Mr. Marinaccio was the lead attorney representing Vincent Gigante in the racketeering case prosecuted in the Eastern District of New York. In 2000, Mr. Marinaccio and his partner, James Culleton, successfully represented Police Officer Richard Murphy in the "Diallo Shooting Trial". In 2001, Mr. Marinaccio's firm obtained a 16.5 million dollars personal injury judgment in the New York State Court of Claims on behalf of a couple injured in an automobile accident. In 2008, Mr. Marinaccio's firm successfully represented Detective Michael Oliver in the "Sean Bell Shooting Trial". In 2011, Mr. Marinaccio and his firm obtained a settlement valued at approximately twenty (20) Million dollars on behalf of a client who was injured in a work site accident. In 2014, Mr. Marinaccio won an acquittal for a young man charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that occurred in 2012. Mr. Marinaccio is Past President of the Bronx County Bar Association and currently a member of its Board of Directors. He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association and a past member of its House of Delegates. In 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, Mr. Marinaccio received the honor of being recognized as a "Super Lawyer" in the New York Metro area, a distinction awarded to only 5% of practicing attorneys. In 1994, Mr. Marinaccio was named Honorary Marshal of the Bronx Columbus Day Parade and in 2000 received the "Cesare Beccaria" Award from the Italian American Legal Defense and Higher Education Fund in recognition of his work on behalf of the Italian American Community. In 2006, Mr. Marinaccio was awarded The Excellence in Law Role Model Award from the Bronx Columbus Alliance, one of the nation's oldest Italian American organizations.

Mr. Marinaccio is a life-long resident of Bronx County where he resides with his wife, JoAnn. Michael and JoAnn have three daughters, Jennifer, a court attorney for an acting New York State Supreme Court Justice; Alexis, who is an elementary and special education teacher in the New York City school system; and Amanda, who also is an elementary education and special education teacher in the New York City school system. Mr. Marinaccio has been active in the community through his association with Kiwanis International. He has been a member of the Bronx Shore Kiwanis Club for over 30 years, serving as the club's president for three terms and is the Lieutenant Governor of the Bronx/Westchester South Division, which encompasses twelve (12) Kiwanis Clubs, for 2016-2017. He has received "Distinguished" and "Life Member" status from Kiwanis International and the Anton J. Kaiser Award from New York District Kiwanis in recognition of his many charitable works in the community. Mr. Marinaccio has also been active with Bronx Special Olympics, Astor Little League, and as a member of the Columbus Alliance.
